The End of Summer 2013

This week’s fall like temps have reminded us that summer is coming to an end.  While we do find time to squeeze in a trip or two away from “the grid,” summer is still our busiest time and we’ve wrapped up another summer distribution.

While the summer distribution is our big event, we have had time for a few other things like:

I found time to sneak in some training and a 100 mile bike ride to raise over $2000 for the First Day Shoe Fund! You can read about that here.

We were the beneficiaries of some Kalamazoo style generosity with Donate. Shop. Savor. Dine. With Sticks and Stones, which teamed up downtown retailer Sticks & Stones, The Wine Loft, and Bottom’s Up for a fundraising event. Many downtown retailers joined in by donating items for raffle to encourage attendees to donate shoes for the event. With their help we were able to raise funds and received nearly 60 pairs of shoes!

With the help of at least two more shoe drives this summer, at Nulty Insurance (now complete) and Parkview Hills (in August), and support from the Kzoo Spartans (a group of MSU Alums) we’re looking forward to the fall!

Finally, this summer we distributed nearly 900 pairs of shoes to Kalamazoo Public School students and are looking forward to our fall distribution in both  Kalamazoo and Comstock.

Again, we cannot do everything we do without the considerable help of our nearly 100 volunteers, an amazing board, and our incredibly generous donors and supporters.  Thank you all!
